The Human Resources Association of Treasure Valley is pleased to present our July 21st webinar "Understanding the Impact of Unconscious Bias" presented by Laura Alvarez Schrag and Dwight Edwards. Are you aware that we all have bias and it impacts our decisions everyday without us even knowing it? There are two types of biases conscious and unconscious. Unconscious bias typically goes unnoticed and we are not aware of it.


Have you ever wondered what Unconscious Bias is and do you have it? Do you want to understand what it means and why it is important? Most of all, have you wondered what the impact would be when it goes un-managed and how to change it? During this training, we will dive into understanding how unconscious bias can affect your success in business and also how it shows up in your daily life. You will receive pragmatic steps and additional tools to help you overcome bias so that you can attain inclusivity and equality in your business allowing you to thrive!

ABOUT OUR PRESENTERS

Laura Alvarez Schrag is the majority owner of Pondera Consulting (incorporated 2008), a small women/minority owned business that provides Business Consulting, Executive & Leadership Coaching and IT consulting. Laura has over 25 years of experience in Human Resources. Prior to building her consulting business, Laura acquired her wealth of experience through a 17- year Human Resources career at Hewlett Packard.  Her expertise includes Executive Leadership Coaching, Diversity Inclusion & Equity, Organizational Culture and Development.  

One of Laura’s greatest strengths is her ability to work within any group dynamic and facilitate in such a way that ensures collaborative, innovative and successful outcomes.  Laura’s extensive background and expertise has allowed her to work with many diverse organizations to address specific and unique needs. Laura brings a wealth of experience in business, the non-profit and public sectors and community activism. Her combination of business acumen, diversity expertise, and dedication to community service has enabled her to successfully champion many important issues.  She has held leadership roles in various non-profit, business and local government organizations and is committed to the growth and development of individuals, organizations and communities.

Laura lives in Idaho with her business partner and husband, Tim Schrag, and their four incredible sons. They live according to the philosophy that every moment is a teaching moment, every moment is a learning moment, and respect for others above all things.

Dwight Edwards is the owner of Reach New Heights, LLC a small business that provides motivational speaking and business consulting. Previously, Dwight worked at HP for over 20 years in a variety of product marketing. Program management, facilitation and training roles. As the training manager, he had responsibilities for developing, implementing and executing strategies for training HP sales reps and external partners. Dwight is a facilitator for Diversity and Inclusion workshops where he mixes his training background with inspiring stories to create an inclusive environment where employees thrive. He holds an MBA with a focus in marketing and finance from the University of Connecticut and is also a 10-year veteran of Toastmasters where achieved DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster) status. One of Dwight’s most significant accomplishments is earning recognition as a semi-finalist at the 2015 World Championship of Public Speaking achieving a top 20 finish out of 10,000 speakers. Through his process, he has learned how to become resilient to overcome obstacles and achieve his goals. Now as a public speaker, Dwight shares his extensive experiences and stories to help businesses and individuals become resilient in reaching their own goals and aspirations.
