student ACADEMIC scholarship program

The mission of the Human Resources Association of Treasure Valley is to promote opportunities for HR Professionals to Engage, Inspire and Lead. We are committed to achieving this mission partially by providing service and partnership with academic, business, legal and community organizations. In support of that mission, the organization awards two academic scholarships to individuals who are studying to begin or advance a career in Human Resources in the State of Idaho.

Eligibility

  • Must either be enrolled in a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate program in Idaho, or reside in Idaho if pursuing an online degree
  • University is an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Degree program is HR-related (e.g. business, psychology, HR, org development, etc.)
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Scholarships will apply to the following academic year (Fall). Therefore, if you are graduating  this academic year, you will not be eligible for the scholarship.

How to Apply

To apply, complete all sections of the Student Scholarship Application and email all requested documents to scholarship@hratv.org.  Application process opens in January and applications will be accepted through March 31, 2025. The Scholarship Committee will review applications and announce the scholarship winners by April 21st, 2025. Winners will be invited to a future HRATV membership program where they will be recognized.

Email the following to scholarship@hratv.org:

  1. Current resume
  2. Most recent transcript
  3. Two letters of reference*
  4. Short 500-750 word essay covering the following topics:
  • Your prior education and work experience
  • Your current goals or aspirations for the future
  • How you think this scholarship will contribute to achieving your career goals

Essays will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Use of proper grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • How clearly ideas and examples are developed and expressed
  • How well responses address the topics in section 1 above
  • How well applicants use examples of current experience or accomplishments to illustrate how what they learn today will help them achieve future career goals on career aspirations, education and work experience, and scholarship need

    * Reference letters should provide insight into applicant's character, career and/or volunteer accomplishments, work ethic, values and need for the scholarship. Letters may be written by work or volunteer colleagues, coaches, professors, etc. but should not come from family members. The letters can be submitted separately or with your application. They can be sent via mail to: HRATV Student Scholarship Review Committee, PO Box 1733, Boise ID 83701 OR by email to scholarship@hratv.org.  

    Additional Information

    Each scholarship is a one-time award; however previous applicants and past scholarship recipients are eligible to re-apply. Full-time, part-time, online and distance learning programs are acceptable. Scholarships are for college-degree programs only, and may not be used to attend professional development seminars. Applicants who have already completed their studies are not eligible for this award and may not apply for a scholarship to cover past expenses.

    Renda Sullivan Memorial Scholarship

    Renda Sullivan was a graduate of Boise State University.  She was the personnel director for Intermountain Gas Company.  She was the Mayor's Committee for Hiring the Handicapped and served as a loan executive for the United Fund.  She was a past president of ASPA, a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Soroptimists. She was a past Young Business Woman of the Year in Boise.   The ASPA scholarship was renamed in her memory in 1980, when she died suddenly of natural causes at the age of 33.

    David Isern Memorial Scholarship

    David Isern was Senior Vice President of Sedgwick, Noble and Lowndes.  He worked as a consultant in the employee benefit field and was a long time member of the Human Resources Association of Treasure Valley.  He was an advocate of continuing education in the benefit area.  The scholarship was established the year he passed away from cancer in 1996.
