Presentation Overview:

After a few Treasure Valley employers announced plans to require employees to be vaccinated against Covid-19, several HRATV members have asked for resources related to vaccination policies and other workplace issues related to COVID-19 developments.  John Ashby, an employment lawyer and co-chair of the HRATV Legislative Affairs committee, will address several employment law developments related to COVID-19.  This presentation will not advocate either for or against vaccination mandates.  Instead, John will explain the various options employers have with regard to vaccination policies – from mandating vaccines, to programs encouraging vaccination, to a completely hands-off approach – and the pros and cons and legal ramifications of each approach.  John will also discuss the various approaches local employers are taking in response to the CDC’s most recent mask guidance.  Finally, John will discuss employment law issues surrounding employee leave for COVID-19 issues.

About the Presenter:

John Ashby is an experienced employment lawyer and is the chair of Hawley Troxell’s Employment Law Practice Group.  John represents employers in all areas of employment law, including wrongful discharge, discrimination, harassment and fair labor standard practice claims.  John believes that good training and a proactive approach can prevent most employment law claims.  However, when employees do raise claims, John represents employers in court or in proceedings before the Idaho Human Rights Commission, the EEOC and the Department of Labor.
